There’s still a few weeks left to go before Lover is released worldwide, but thanks to a new interview, Taylor Swift fans now have a bit more intel on two of the album’s 18 tracks.
Taylor Swift is officially this month’s Vogue cover girl, and in addition to speaking candidly about her views on activism, the Reputation era, and more, the pop star also dished a few more interesting details on her new album.
First up, Swift doubled down on the idea that her highly anticipated seventh studio album, Lover, is an ode to love in all of its forms.
Without a doubt, the most interesting part of the interview came when Swift played the album’s titular track, “Lover,” as well as another song called “The Man” for Vogue reporter Abby Aguirre.
Unfortunately, the rest of us will have to wait until August 23 to experience both tracks, but luckily the Vogue piece does give us some information with regards to what we can expect from both tracks.
In their Taylor Swift feature the magazine describes “Lover” as “romantic, haunting, waltzy,” while Swift herself revealed that the track was produced by frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff.
The “ME!” singer also revealed that the titular track has one of her favorite bridges. (For the uninitiated, the bridge a section of a song used to provide contrast. Often, it serves as a place for the musician to offer up a different perspective lyrically and/or melodically, before the song reaches its climax.)
“I love a bridge, and I was really able to go Bridge City,” said Swift before previewing a few of the track’s lyrics: “My heart’s been borrowed and yours has been blue, All’s well that ends well to end up with you.”
As for “The Man,” the Aguirre describes the song as “a synth-pop earworm,” while Swift herself explained that the track is one that “plays with the idea of perception.”
“It’s a thought experiment of sorts: ‘If I had made all the same choices, all the same mistakes, all the same accomplishments, how would it read,” said Swift before once again previewing some lyrics: “I’d be a fearless leader. I’d be an alpha type. When everyone believes ya: what’s that like.”
If anything, the tidbits Taylor Swift just let us in on have us even more excited to get our hands on Lover than we were before!
