2012 Academy Awards predictions: Best Picture

The 84th annual Academy Awards are just around the corner (Tonight, to be exact), so it is high time that we share our own predictions on which films will strike Oscar gold come Sunday night. Civil rights activist writes letter supporting ‘The Help’ on the brink of the Oscars

Last year, Kathryn Stockett’s historical fiction novel The Help was adapted into a feature film.  Since it hit theaters last summer, the movie has received critical acclaim and has been nominated for numerous awards. In the coming days of the 84th Academy Awards, in which The Help holds four nominations,  civil rights activist Myrile Evers-Williams wrote a public letter supporting The Help, stating it is “this year’s most outstanding and socially relevant motion picture.”

Recap: The New York Times Bestseller list week of 1/22

Opinion: Team Meryl Streep, and why Viola Davis didn’t win

Meryl Streep has now won the Golden Globe for Best Actress-Drama and it seems that some people are upset it didn’t go to Viola Davis. I’m quite upset that people think this way. If we are truly looking at who performed better in their films alone, clearly the winner is Meryl Streep. Meryl Streep’s portrayal of Margret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady” is remarkable and astonishing. Very few could do what Meryl Streep does. The way she speaks and moves like Thatcher is perfect.
