Watch the first trailer for Syfy’s upcoming horror series Nightflyers, based on the novella by Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin.
Nightflyers channels Martin’s passions for science fiction and horror, a slightly different manifestation of the literary talents that brought us the fantasy-heavy A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones. But if the first teaser for Nightflyers is any indication, the Syfy channel adaptation will have no shortage of the Martin-esque chills and thrills we have come to know and love (and, to be honest, fear.)
The first Nightflyers teaser is full of fear — as well as blood, ominous warnings, and space. A bit of that signature George R. R. Martin evil is also apparent in short interview segments.
“Nightflyers is a haunted house story on a starship,” Martin says. “It’s Psycho in space.”
The synopsis provided by Syfy is consistent with that description.
“Nightflyers follows eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath who embark on an expedition to the edge of our solar system aboard The Nightflyer — a ship with a small tightknit crew and a reclusive captain — in the hope of making contact with alien life,” the network says.
“But when terrifying and violent events begin to take place they start to question each other — and surviving the journey proves harder than anyone thought.”
Supervising producer Sean Ryerson is a bit more succinct.
“If I were to describe this series in three words,” he says, “It would be, ‘Just fucking awesome.'”
Nightflyers stars Gretchen Mol, Eoin Macken, David Ajala, and Strike, and comes to the Syfy channel this Fall.
