The Sweet Valley High books were about the only novels in the 80’s that could be classified as Young Adult. In 2009 Diablo Cody signed on to write the script for the film adaptation and recently she started talking about it again.
Diable Cody is currently talking about her latest project aptly named Young Adult, and in the various interviews someone was bound to ask about the Sweet Valley High project she signed on to years ago.
I need to talk to the producers and see how much I can say about it. It’s closer to reality than ever but I can’t freely talk about it. I want it to be wonderfully nostalgic. I want it to be to the ’80s what ‘American Graffiti‘ was to the [early] ’60s. I want it to be looking back on a really cool time and enjoying yourself and I want it to be glamorous and colorful and bubblegum and a feast for the senses. That’s my plan.
The Sweet Valley High series was originally printed during the early 80’s through late 90’s. There was also a TV show that ran for four seasons in the mid 90’s. In 2008 Random House repackaged the novels and updated them to appeal to today’s YA market.
Are you looking forward to a Sweet Valley High movie penned by Diablo Cody?
