The Star Trek: Picard trailer takes us back to Next Generation and sets the course for Patrick Stewart’s return to Starfleet.
Captain, or should we say, Admiral Picard, is set to return to Starfleet. Not just for the first time in 25 years for fans, but for the first time in almost as many years in the time of the series as well.
Picard’s story does not end with “All Good Things.” The series finale of Next Generation left the then Captain Picard in the same spot where his self-titled series trailer picks up – LaBarre, France. The information provided via voiceover in the trailer leaves a few holes for the series’ first outing to fill in. What happened over the course of the last 15 years? What events transpired that pushed Picard to leave Starfleet? And what man are we meeting when the series picks up?
The trailer sweeps over the Picard family vineyard as a voice over reads,
“You commanded the greatest rescue armada in history. Then, the unimaginable. What did that cost you? Your faith? Your faith in us? Your faith in yourself? Tell us. Why did you leave Starfleet, admiral?”
25 years ago today, ‘All Good Things’ brought us to an end. The end is only the beginning. #StarTrekPicard to stream exclusively on @CBSAllAccess in the United States, Amazon #PrimeVideo in more than 200 countries, in Canada on @SpaceChannel & @CraveCanada https://t.co/MQp0eP0ovM pic.twitter.com/m9sDqvS8Mo

The first shot of Stewart as Picard arrives with him seemingly being read these questions ahead of a new mission with Starfleet — his first in a good long while. I’d be lying if I said the first glimpse of Stewart didn’t give me chills. While the Star Trek revival at CBS under Alex Kurtzman has given me some pause with just how much Trek is coming our way, I think Discovery is moving boldly into new territory and Picard will do the same as it charts its new course.
In addition to the trailer the first poster was also released featuring the Starfleet insignia in the vineyard.
Star Trek: Picard will run for 10 episodes on CBS All Access with international streaming on Amazon Prime. No word on an official premiere date has been released.
Time to speculate!
