Spiral has just released its first trailer, and it looks just as gory and demented as you would expect from a reboot of the Saw franchise!
The first Saw film premiered in 2004, marking James Wan’s directorial debut and grossing over $100 million worldwide on an estimated budget of $1.2 million.
From there, the franchise spawned seven more sequels, becoming one of the most profitable and recognizable horror franchises of all time. When the eighth and — what we thought — final movie ended its theatrical run, the eight Saw movies had raked in nearly one billion dollars worldwide on a combined $77 million budget.
Now, the gory horror franchise is back with Spiral: From the Book of Saw, starring Chris Rock, Max Minghella and Samuel L. Jackson in a brand new morbid game.
Check out the trailer below, followed by the official plot synopsis!
A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in ‘Spiral’, the terrifying new chapter from the book of ‘Saw’. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran, brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks and his rookie partner take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
Spiral stars Chris Rock as Detective Ezekiel ‘Zeke’ Banks, Max Minghella as his partner William Schenk, Marisol Nichols as Capt. Angie Garza, and Samuel L. Jackson as esteemed police veteran Marcus. In addition to his starring role, the film is executive produced by Chris Rock (who also came up with the story), as well as the original Saw team of Mark Burg and Oren Koules.
Spiral brings back a few Saw franchise veterans, including director Darren Lynn Bousman, who wrote and directed Saw II, Saw III and Saw IV, and screenwriters Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger, who penned the script for Jigsaw.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw will be released in theaters on May 15.
