Marvel is at it again, re-releasing Spider-Man: Far From Home in theaters with an additional action sequence.
It happened with Avengers: Endgame, and it’s happening again with Spider-Man: Far From Home. The latest Spidey adventure is getting re-released starting on August 29 with an additional action sequence to draw viewers back into movie theaters.
As Variety reports, the additional action sequence adds about four minutes to the movie. Moviegoers can see the extended version in regular, large format, or IMAX theaters in both the U.S. and Canada.
Marvel’s last attempt at re-introducing a movie back into theaters was a rousing success for the entertainment giant. The re-release of Endgame helped the finale of the MCU’s Infinity Saga bump its sales past $2.79 billion dollars, finally beating Avatar in the box office and becoming the biggest movie of all time with $2.7902 billion dollars in ticket sales.
Obviously, Spider-Man: Far From Home won’t be in the running for huge titles like that with its re-release. Still, the flick has been Sony’s highest-grossing picture, raking in $1.109 billion in global ticket sales, and Far From Home’s opening weekend set a six-day record for Sony, earning $185.06 million in weekend ticket sales.
With Far From Home performing so wonderfully on its initial run, it isn’t surprising to see Sony attempt to snag a bit more cash from the successful Spider-Man franchise. And even though it can be tempting to roll your eyes at a film re-release, Marvel does know how to make an incredibly visually captivating action sequence, so you know those four minutes are going to be pretty incredible to watch.
Of course, the bigger question surrounding Marvel’s second major re-release is if this is going to become a new trend for the MCU and other films. If Spider-Man: Far From Home experiences the same ticket boost that Endgame did, it is certainly likely that we may see more re-release stunts coming from future MCU flicks.
The original cut of Spider-Man: Far From Home is still in some theaters now, but you can snag tickets to see the extended version when it lands in theaters on August 29.
