The Spice Girls need to formally reunite and make new music

I went to the Spice Girls’ final show at Wembley Stadium, and they’re better than they’ve ever been.

I’ll begin with informing you, the reader, that I am a hard core, over-the-top, dedicated Spice Girls fan since 1996. I’m not one of those people who casually got back into them with their new tour. I mean, literally every single day since 1996 I have enjoyed them in some capacity. I know what each of them is doing at any given time. I own all of their solo music. I’m a Spice Boy.

I don’t know where to begin. There’s so much to say but I’ll just share this for now. #HoldOnToYourKnickersGirls! @spicegirls #SpiceGirls #SpiceWorld #MeatLoaf

I recently flew from New York City to London to fulfill a lifelong dream: seeing them live at Wembley Stadium. I remember when they played Wembley twenty-some years ago. I had no idea where or what Wembley was, but I knew the significance.

Heading into the sold out show at Wembley, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Posh Spice was missing. They’re a bit older than the last time they toured in 2007 and 2008 (a comment on their familiarity with the material, not a comment of their ages). Would they be able to keep up in a world where the pop charts are dominated by R&B and Hip Hop these days? Well there’s great news to report from London: the Spice Girls are better than they ever have been!

While many of us missed Victoria making the band the nostalgic five-some that they once were, the 2019 Spice Girls are a four-some that, and please don’t be upset, are better without her. As great as Victoria was, her energy was never really matched with Melanie C’s round-off back hand springs, or Mel B’s infectious energy running around the stage. I didn’t want to hear it then but I’m not ashamed to say it now: the Spice Girls are a better musical pop group without Victoria Beckham.

The Spice World 2019 tour, more so than The Return of the Spice Girls tour from 2007 and 2008, was the Spice Girls at their best; it was as if they never stopped touring or making music. The production was fresh and modern, the hits still stuck, and they arguably had more collaborative energy on stage sans Victoria. Unlike so many pop acts from the 90s and early 2000s, the Spice Girls played to their nostalgia by walking on to the stage at Wembley, in front of a sold out 80,000 seats, and performed like they had never stopped. And because of that, it’s time we come together as pop music fans and demand the obvious.

I come before you today to start a movement. The Spice Girls 2019 Spice World tour, as of press time, ended at Wembley Stadium on June 19. There are currently no other plans to tour, despite Mel B mentioning they’d be in Australia in February and then immediately walking that statement back on Good Morning Britain. But it’s time to make the Spice Girls a current pop act in 2019 and beyond.

While we are all grateful for the nostalgic hits and good times from The Spice World tour, what is stopping Geri, Melanie B, Emma and Melanie C from making new Spice Girls music? It was recently announced that all five members, including Victoria Beckham, have signed on for a new animated movie where they will be voicing themselves as super heroes of some sort. There will apparently be new music featured with this project, which is very exciting. But why not make a proper album, then?

After multiple sold out Wembley stadium shows, and every continent begging for an extension of their stage show, there’s never been a better time for the Spice Girls to bring back the Girl Power in a contemporary way! We are living in the midst of one of the most exciting feminist movements in modern history, and we demand Girl Power now more than ever.

I am actually so serious about this, I have created a change.org petition, in hopes that we the fans will be able to will our hopes and dreams into reality! If you, like me, will never give up on the good times and think living it up is a state of mind, please sign this petition and send it to everyone you know. Together, we could be singing along to “Spice Up Your Life” across the Spice world for years to come!

Sign my petition to formally reunite the Spice Girls and extend their tour here!
