Sony’s adaptation of the hugely popular Uncharted series of games, set to star Tom Holland, has a release date of 2020.
The Uncharted movie has had a bumpy road in terms of its development. Director Shawn Levy left the project in December, sending the movie back into development hell, and an uncertain future ahead of it.
In January, however, the movie picked up a new director in Dan Trachtenberg, and a screenplay by Jonathan Rosenberg and Mark Walker. Sony appear to be happy with both Trachtenberg as a director and the screenplay, as it has now committed to a December 18, 2020 release date.
Tom Holland remains attached in the lead role of Nathan Drake, a charismatic treasure hunter, who travels around the world, uncovering historical mysteries. The game series, by Naughty Dog, spans several titles and has become a firm favorite with fans — who will want to see Drake, and the story, done right by in the adaptation.
There is no other casting news at this time other than Holland. However, with a director, screenplay, and release date all in place, we should expect to see production continue to pick up steam.
