Bill Hader hosted SNL with musical guest Hozier last night. Check out the recap featuring some of the best sketches of the night.
Hader was billed as host, but it was almost more like a double-hosting episode with SNL alum Kristen Wiig not only joining Hader in multiple sketches but even introducing the second performance of the night with Hozier. Wiig co-stars with Hader in their new movie The Skeleton Twins. Hader was a strong host and kept the laughs coming as he reprised a couple of his iconic roles including everybody’s favorite character: Stefon.
The episode opened with Bobby Moynihan spoofing North Korean leader Kim Jon Un, who hasn’t been seen in a public forum for several weeks leading to many speculating about his health. Moynihan exaggerates Un’s injuries to the fullest extent:
In the opening monologue, Hader was joined by his Skeleton Twins co-star and former SNL favorite Kristen Wiig. Kristen helps Bill sing in his opening monologue but unfortunately…he kind of falls short. Harvey Firestein later joins to help Bill really get into his voice.
In the first sketch of the night, Hader reprised his role as Herb Welch the old, out-of-touch news reporter.
The Digital Short of the night spoofed The Maze Runner with a movie which was apparently entirely written in the comment thread of The Hunger Games trailer and features Bill Hader as a spoof of both Maleficent and Effie Trinket. Check out the trailer for The Group Hopper.
Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader took a moment on the show to pay tribute to Jan Hooks, a former SNL cast member who passed away earlier this week. The tribute featured a sketch Jan performed alongside another fallen cast member Phil Hartman.
Much to everyone’s delight (including the premature screaming audience) Hader reprised his role as Stefon, the Weekend Update City Correspondent. This marks the first time Hader joined Weekend Update with new anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che.

SNL will take a couple weeks off before returning on Saturday, October 25 with host Jim Carrey and musical guest Iggy Azalea.
