Alice Wetterlund is speaking out about her time on HBO’s Silicon Valley, saying that everyone, cast and crew, enabled TJ Miller’s bullying on set.
It has been over a year since TJ Miller left Silicon Valley, and a few months since allegations surfaced about Miller sexually assaulting a young woman while attending George Washington University. With some beginning to talk about rehabilitating Miller’s career after it was halted due to the sexual assault allegations and allegedly calling in a fake bomb threat on an Amtrak train, one of his former Silicon Valley cast mates, Alice Wetterlund, is speaking out.
As The Hollywood Reporter states, Wetterlund took to Twitter to not only denounce the actor, but to say that Miller’s bullying behavior on the set of Silicon Valley was enabled by the show’s primarily male crew and the cast. She called Miller a petulant brat on set, and said everyone in power on the Silicon Valley set was complicit in his behavior.
Thank you! I hope to not ruin it for you, but TJ Miller was a bully and petulant brat and pretty much everyone who had any power on that (almost all male) set, including the male cast members, enabled him and were complicit in his unprofessionalism. They can fuck off forever. https://t.co/YxGHiSYMrJ

The actress continued, saying that while she couldn’t speak the for the experience of the few other women who have starred on the show, for her, Silicon Valley was a nightmare.
A fan later asked her why she didn’t leave the show if it was so horrible for her, and if staying made her complicit as well. Wetterlund rebutted saying she stayed because she needed the work and as it was her first recurring role, she wasn’t aware that the hostile work environment wasn’t the norm.
I’m pretty open about this, and I don’t know if other women on the show had a different experience than me, but it was kind of a nightmare.

Wetterlund doesn’t go into details regarding Miller’s behavior and the behavior of the cast and crew, but she does say that it’s been hard for her to discuss the experience without “muddying the waters of #MeToo.”
HBO, for its part, released a statement to THR saying, “While this is the first time we have heard Alice Wetterlund comment on her experiences on Silicon Valley, we are disappointed to learn of her concerns. HBO and the producers have always taken very seriously our responsibility to create a welcoming and congenial environment for everyone who works on the show.”
While the statement doesn’t necessarily help Wetterlund’s experience, we’re thankful she chose to come forward with her experiences working with TJ Miller. Hopefully, this will continue to push Hollywood to become a safer, more inclusive place for everyone.
