Rejoice, Shrill fans! Aidy Bryant and the rest of the gang will be back on Hulu for a second season in 2020.

Hulu viewers have been talking nonstop about the new comedy starring Saturday Night Live’s Aidy Bryant. It’s a pretty exciting series, as it focuses on a fat woman named Annie (Bryant) who is interested in changing her life but not her body.

Clearly, the idea of a television show celebrating a woman bettering herself without feeling like she had to hit a certain pant size first resonated with a lot of viewers. Since the show launched on March 15, the internet has been abuzz about the show. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show has a 91% freshness rating from critics and an 80% freshness rating from fans.

Hulu definitely took notice and didn’t wait long to respond to the positive praise. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Shrill will not only be coming back for a second season, but Hulu has increased the second season episode count from 6 to 8.

Shrill is based on the book of the same name by Lindy West and is produced by Bryant (who also serves as co-showrunner alongside Ali Rushfield), Elizabeth Banks, Lorne Michaels, and Andrew Singer. The entire team is expected to return for season 2.

It is incredibly exciting to see this show get renewed so quickly. Stories about fat women are so often focused on losing weight or are onscreen to be nothing more than a punchline or a trusty sidekick to the show’s ingenue. Seeing a major streaming service value the stories of fat women is a huge step forward in representation, and we can’t wait to see what adventures await Annie in season 2.
