Heading into its fourth season as the quirky cousin of the CW’s superhero lineup, Legends of Tomorrow made its way over to Ballroom 20 on Saturday afternoon to tease about what wild expeditions we can expect to see our misfit heroes adventure on this fall.
Season 3 Recap
Caught in a new threat of their own making after finally defeating Eobard Thawne and his Legions of Doom at the end of season 2, the Legends started off season 3 facing the consequences of their actions. Visiting a moment in time that they’d already been to fractured the natural timeline and created anachronisms, causing several people, animals, and objects to be scattered throughout time.
The Legends tasked themselves with finding all of the anachronisms and returning them to their rightful place in time before the time stream fell apart permanently, but after the Time Bureau scoffed at the Legends’ methods, our heroes were forced to disband temporarily for a period until Sara saw her chance to get the band back together.
Season 4 sees our heroes starting off with a similar problem when new Legend Constantine informs the team that by killing the demon Mallus in the season 3 finale they’ve created a new problem that affects not only our world, but all of them. When time crumbled, the barrier between worlds softened, and “Fugitives” managed to escape throughout time — magical and fantastical creatures from myths and legends who are now creating havok in the real world.
‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Comic-Con Live Blog!
4:58 PST The Arrow panel just ended! The cast was so cool and Emily was HILARIOUS. Legends of Tomorrow is up next!
5:03 PST The panel’s starting! We’re getting a recap of last season and Constantine’s return. Legends of Tomorrow on Monday, October 22nd at 9 EST
5:04 PST We’re getting a sneak peek of next season! Constantine is back because this time they’ve screwed things up for the more magical. Also, there’s a unicorn!
5:08 PST The cast is coming out! So many Legends! Also the show’s Executive Producer.
5:09 PST The cast for the show has grown, shifted and changed. Of the original nine on the rooftop of the pilot, only three remain. According to the EP, it’s like having more toys in the toybox. They’re like living action figures. They never get tired of the dynamics because they shift and change so much. It makes every season so exciting.
5:10 PST Bringing on a new performer who will be working at the Time Bureau now that Ava and Sara are so romantically connected.
5:11 PST Nate will be reconnecting with his father and the person playing him will be Tom Wilson aka Biff from Back to the Future.
5:12 PST Matt joined the show as Constantine and it was four years ago that he was sitting here at Comic-Con promoting Constantine for NBC. And now he’s back!
5:13 PST Joining the Legends is new for Matt because it’s a totally new comic than the characters from the comic books.
5:14 PST Caity has grown with the character as Sara has become the team’s fearless leader. The show means a lot to the cast, so they’re glad that the fans like it too. Caity is proud of Sara because she’s not only a female leader, but a bisexual LGBTQ character who’s a leader. Sara’s seen it all, but Caity’s always surprised that the writers find new places to take her.
5:16 PST Nora has been through a lot with both of her parents killed, put into foster care, and then put into a mental institution and being possessed by a demon. Now she has to figure out who she is without all of these influences. Will she continue down this dark path or get a job at Starbucks? Ray is such a positive energy and influence, but will she be drawn to that?
5:18 PST Nora and Ray have such a crazy bond that’s based on wanting to kill each other and also saving each other. Are they friends or something more?
5:19 PST Beebo made an appearance! I’ve got to admit it’s kind of terrifying. But it gave Brandon a hug.
5:20 PST Adam Tsekhman is inside the Beebo costume! GARY!
5:21 PST Maisie will be playing Charlie, a British trickster that the Legends stumble upon and have to figure out if she’s friend or foe. She’s going to shake up the ship.
5:22 PST The Time Bureau set is beautiful– it looks like West Wing in space, so Jes Macallan loves being on set.
5:23 PST We’re going to see a softer side of Sara for sure and a VERY soft side of Ava. Jes hopes that we get to see them domesticate after we’ve been treated to their beautiful journey.
5:24 PST In the first episode we’ll be in the 60s during Woodstock… and they might cross paths with the Beatles!
5:25 PST Nate started off a real-life person who became a superhero, so it’s nice for Nick that we get to go back and see his history and meet his dad. Also Nick now gets to hear cool Back to the Future stories.
5:26 PST Time for Audience Questions! Our first question asks about the Legends merchandise. The EP says that she buys hers from fans because there isn’t enough official WB merchandise.
5:27 PST Will we see Firestorm or Snart in the following season? At the moment no. But anything’s possible. Sara’s died a lot of times.
5:28 PST Tala takes the issue of representation really seriously and as the first Muslim-American superhero on television she’s worked really hard with the writers to make her multidimensional. She’s much more than her religion. Tala is really proud to represent her in a way that’s not always seen on television.
5:30 PST Ever since Caity was little she says she’s liked to be in charge, so in that way she’s like Sara, but she says that Sara’s way tougher than she is. She’s so afraid that someone’s going to try and fight her on the street. But she says that a lot of the characters are very similar to their actors. Brandon and Dominic are hilariously nodding to that.
5:31 PST Mick is a tough guy, but it’s a defense mechanism. Deep down there are scars and he’s a sweetheart. So he does yearn for Captain Cold who was someone he always looked up to. Wentworth Miller is also one of Dominic’s best friends in the world.
5:33 PST Kid Flash will not be back with the Legends because both the actor and the character have other things they want to do. Keynon is trying to make the world a better place on his own time.
5:35 PST It’s hard to bring what happens on other shows onto their show because it’s a comedy, so Sara will mourn her dad before the show begins and they’ll talk about it briefly, but you won’t see it on screen.
5:39 PST Caity wants to see a Legends with Guardians of the Galaxy crossover.
5:43 PST And the panel’s done! The cast was so charming and funny, and their love for each other really shines through.
