The CW is adding another iconic DC character to its ever-expanding arsenal: Batwoman!
Following her debut in last year’s Arrowverse crossover Elsewords, Ruby Rose’s Batwoman has been given her own television series.
The order is significant as it’ll be the first show on the network to star an LGBT superhero — Batwoman is a lesbian. The Flash and Arrow pilot director David Nutter will return to helm the premiere episode of Batwoman, which is expected to enter production this year. It’ll be executive produced by Arrowverse helmer Greg Berlanti.
The CW says of the Batwoman series, “Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane [Rose] soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”
