The Rogue One Disney+ prequel series that’s set to center on Diego Luna’s character, Cassian Andor, has just added Stellan Skarsgard to the cast.
According to Variety, the actor is still in final negotiations for his currently unknown role.
Actor Kyle Soller has also reportedly been cast alongside Skarsgard in the Rogue One prequel series in an additional, currently unknown role.
Being part of the Rogue One prequel series will make it the third time Stellan Skarsgard has been part of a major Disney franchise.
He was previously Bootstrap Bill Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and played Dr. Erik Selvig in the first two Thor films and the first two Avengers films. His last role was in the critically-acclaimed HBO series, Chernobyl.
Rogue One co-writer Tony Gilroy is set to write the pilot for the prequel series and will likewise direct multiple episodes. He will work alongside series showrunner Stephen Schiff, who is was writer and producer on the FX television series The Americans.
The currently untitled Rogue One prequel series will focus on Rebel agent Cassian Andor and his adventures prior to the events of Rogue One.
Set in the early days of the Rebellion against the Empire, the show was described as a “spy thriller.”
Diego Luna, who starred in the Rogue One film alongside Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso, is set to return to the role of Cassian Andor.
In addition, Alan Tudyk, who played the dryly hilarious droid sidekick to Andor K-2SO, is also set to reprise his role for the prequel series.
Though Disney had previously planned for the Rogue One prequel series to debut in 2021, the industry-wide shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to have affected both the production start date — which is still unknown — as well as that 2021 premiere date.
