Star Wars: The Force Awakens is amping up its nostalgia factor with these awesome minimalistic posters!
IGN has released this series of retro Star Wars posters, playing up the fact that J.J. Abrams is taking the franchise back to its roots (translation: Pretending like the prequels don’t exist).
The text-based posters play on Episode VII’s title, urging the viewer (like lead character Finn, played by John Boyega), to just “let it in.” The “it” obviously being the Force. (It’s the new “Let it Go,” guys.)
Long-time Star Wars fans know that these posters are much more than just superficial nods to the original trilogy. This is one of the original posters for the 1977 Star Wars:
The Force Awakens is set to evoke nostalgia feels by default: Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are reprising their roles as original trio Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker, with new leads Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn) and Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) set to follow in their footsteps.
As if people weren’t already going to go out and see this movie, the promotional campaign for The Force Awakens is already in full swing. Last week, the main cast and director J.J. Abrams stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to tease the movie, and Abrams even revealed the first spoken word!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens premieres December 18. It’s rated PG-13, and is set to return the franchise to its beloved roots.
