Renee Zellweger has set her sights on director Michael Patrick King’s The Back Nine for her next starring role.
According to Deadline, Academy Award winner Renee Zellweger has officially signed on to star in Landline Pictures’ The Back Nine.
Billed as a comedy, The Back Nine hails from Sex and the City vet Michael Patrick King, who wrote the script for the film with Jhoni Marchinko and Krista Smith.
The comedy centers on a former golfer named Casey Jones, who gave up her career in the sport to make way for her husband to advance in his own golf career.
25 years later, Casey finds herself at a crossroads when her marriage hits a rough patch just as her son is gearing up to set off for college. It’s then that she decides to pick up her golf clubs again in an effort to turn pro.

For her part, Zellweger, who recently scored a Best Actress nod at the Oscars for her portrayal as Judy Garland in Judy, will take on the role of Casey Jones.
In addition to working on the script with Marchinko and Smith, King will also serve as director on The Back Nine.
In a statement with regards to today’s big casting news, King spoke of how much everyone on the team is looking forward to having Zellweger on board for the film.
Said King: “Jhoni and Krista and I are very excited to have the amazing Renee Zellweger do our movie The Back Nine. A stunning actress with incredible range, she can make you laugh and cry and has a great golf swing. What more could anyone want?”
Currently, there’s no word on when we might expect to see The Back Nine starring Renee Zellweger debut on the big screen.
