It’s Internet Day, so naturally, the upcoming animated film, Ralph Breaks the Internet, took time to celebrate this momentous holiday.
Ah, the World Wide Web. While some of us still remember the day that our families got that first slow, clunky dial-up internet connection, many of us can’t remember a time where the internet wasn’t readily and easily available. It’s a big day, so it seemed only right that Disney’s upcoming movie, Ralph Breaks the Internet, commemorate the day that our technological world changed forever.
Disney released two videos to commemorate Internet Day, the first being a brand new clip from Ralph Breaks the Internet that introduces us to a new face (voiced by the incomparable Alan Tudyk) that we can expect to see in Ralph and Vanellope’s adventures in cyberspace. In the clip, Ralph and Vanellope try asking an internet search engine, KnowsMore, for help finding a new steering wheel for Vanellope’s game, Sugar Rush. However, asking a simple question proves to be a bit of a challenge (at least for Ralph) due to KnowsMore fairly aggressive autofill settings.
Of course, Disney also wanted to be sure to commemorate what Internet Day is truly about. Started in 2005, Internet Day celebrates the origins of the internet. After all, it only seems fair for Disney to teach us a bit about the early days of the internet if they plan to let Ralph loose on it later to wreck it, right? This short video starring the one and only Vanellope von Schweetz herself, Sarah Silverman, explains Internet Day and the first use (and crash) of the internet.
Obviously, Internet Day marks a huge turning point for us as a society, and Disney is going to make sure that we celebrate it (and the forthcoming release of Ralph Breaks the Internet) all day. Be sure to stick close to Twitter for new Ralph Breaks the Internet content to be released throughout the day, and you can head to Disney.com to watch the site get wrecked in honor of Ralph.
You can join in Ralph and Vanellope’s internet-breaking adventures when Ralph Breaks the Internet releases in theaters on November 21.
