We all thought it would pretty much be a cold day in hell before Hannah would believe Alex was telling the truth. Well, you should grab a coat before watching Quantico season 1, episode 16.
Quantico 1×16 answered a lot of questions we probably hadn’t even thought to ask. Those answers will undoubtedly help in the long run, but for now, we’re just filing them away for future reference. Check out what we thought of Quantico season 1, episode 16, “Clue” and make sure to let us know what you think in the comments.
Present Day
Alex Parrish
Alex, Alex, Alex. At some point she’s going to have to stop listening and doing everything the Voice tells her to do. This week, she and Hannah worked together (shocking we know) to take these guys down. Alex hid an envelope under a chair in Claire Haas’ town hall campaign stop, and the terrorists moved their plan forward. We can’t wait to see her take a stand and stop being the puppet they’ve made her into. She should get her chance next week, what with her and Asher finally with a clue as to what the terrorists might be up to.
Hannah Wyland
While Alex was busy acting out the terrorist’s instructions, Hannah was doing everything in her power to figure out what the end game was. She assumed that the pills that the terrorists had Alex switch out last week were being used to raise Haas’ temperature so she would be more easily identified in the dark. Add in the component chip that was in the envelope and the lights go out, sending our team into action. They tried to get to the Senator, but when neither could, Hannah fired her firearm and sent the crowd scurrying. Agent Wyland was suspended from active duty and will not be Alex’s ally for the next part of the terrorist plot, but Hannah trusts Alex now to figure out who these terrorists are and beat them at their own game.
Simon Asher
He didn’t have a very active role in this episode, but he is still steadfastly on Team Alex. If that ever wavers we will be sorely disappointed in him. He’s been playing it straight with Alex for a while now, so hopefully he won’t turn out to be working against her. That would really suck.
Ryan Booth
The only noteworthy bit for Ryan in the present day arch is that by the end of the episode, he has sworn to take Alex down and not let her out of his sight. Considering that Hannah’s parting words to Alex were to keep Ryan out of this, we’re definitely interested to see how Alex manages to keep Booth safe.
Back at Quantico
First of all, this Detroit Lions fan was a little offended by Perales’ jab about the Quantico shrink being a fan. It’s called loyalty, buddy. Anyway, here’s what was going on back in the NATs Quantico days.
Caleb Haas
Caleb and Shelby make a decent team for the drills they run, but Caleb has a lot going on besides just trying to help Shelby navigate her way through her parents’ lies. He and Will Olsen are putting together one hell of a rescue mission. Caleb tells Will that Mark Raymond is an alias he is using to get into Sistemas, the cult Caleb was rescued from by his parents. Caleb desperately wants to save a friend that he joined the cult with, but thanks to a change in leadership, Caleb will be recognized on sight. We then learn that Will is a master mimic and can go in Caleb’s place to save his friend Ross Edwards.
Shelby Wyatt
Shelby is having a really hard time dealing with the truth she learned about her parents in last week’s episode. Knowing that they are not only alive, but have been lying and using her the whole time? That’s a real punch to the gut.
The drill that the NATs were running this week was especially hard on Shelby. They were forced to recreate a terrorist situation on a plane over and over again. Just when she and Alex thought they had the situation handled, they learned that this drill was designed to be a no win scenario. Shelby really needed a win this time around, so she definitely took the loss the hardest. Thank goodness Alex was there to remind her that she too is the product of a lying parent. She advised Shelby to get hungry for answers, not to try and bury her pain in sex and training.
Reyna Amin
The twins had a very minor role in this episode, as they were both waiting to be called in to give statements about their involvement with the terror cell of which Miranda’s son Charlie was a part. Reyna had it harder than Nimah though, as she felt loyal to both Miranda and her future in the program. She was willing to lie to help Miranda keep her job, but thanks to a bit of honesty on Miranda’s part, Reyna was let off the hook.
Good to note: We saw Asher in the Quantico flashbacks for the first time since he was kicked out of the program. We’re most interested to learn what he’s been up to all this time, and what kinds of contacts he might have to help down the line.
Least trustworthy NATs based on events of this episode
- Caleb Haas: He’s got too much going on at the moment, and his sub-mission with Will seems like just the thing that could snowball into his involvement with a terrorist organization down the line. Plus, that last line from the Voice in the trailer sounded a hell of a lot like Caleb. Hopefully we find out next week!
- Will Olsen: He’s got skills! They’re multiplying. His ability to mimic mannerisms as accurately as he did in this episode is a giant red flag. He could be a real asset to the terrorist cell, and we still don’t know much about him. He has to stay on our suspects list.
- Drew Perales: We really want to trust this guy, but something just doesn’t sit right about him. He’s very blasé about killing that terrorist in last week’s episode, and for a former football player, it shouldn’t be that easy to move past. It just shouldn’t be.
- Natalie Vasquez: We still can’t rule her out, and if she pops back up again, we will still be shocked to see her alive. There’s just something about her death that refuses to feel final for us.
