Pottermore has announced four new eBooks, and like clockwork, thirsty media is spinning it as four new Harry Potter stories from J.K. Rowling.
“J.K. Rowling releasing four new Harry Potter books,” lied ComicBook.com Thursday morning. “J.K. Rowling to release four new Harry Potter stories,” lied The Independent.
These aren’t as exciting as they might sound. Pottermore is releasing four digital books that are spun out of the recent British Library exhibition Harry Potter: A History of Magic (which also released a nice book and had a run in New York).
Pottermore says the four short books are “themed by Hogwarts lessons, and will take you back in time once again to learn about the traditional folklore and magic at the heart of the Harry Potter stories, accompanied by some new, gorgeous line drawings from London-based artist Rohan Daniel.”
Harry Potter: A Journey Through Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts and A Journey Through Potions and Herbology will be released June 27 at $2.99 a pop. Divination and Astronomy and Care of Magical Creatures will be released “in the coming months.”
The books will be released via Pottermore Publishing, who in previous years has released eBooks based on content J.K. Rowling released for Pottermore.
These won’t be anything new and seem to have no contributions from Rowling other than some sketches and drafts that were already a part of the exhibition and its companion book. The only people who might get excited about these are academic types.
