As Nintendo announced the first set of Pokémon Sword and Shield DLC, they also dropped details on the new Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX dungeon crawler title for the Nintendo Switch.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX will release on March 6, 2020, and a demo for the game will be available on Nintendo’s eShop later today. Progress of the demo will transfer over to the full purchase. This title is a remake of the 2006 dungeon crawler Red and Blue Rescue Team games. Not much else was revealed about the new Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX Switch game, as the rest of today’s Pokémon Direct focused on downloadable content for the latest main-series Switch Pokémon games.
Pokémon Sword and Shield will see two DLC expansion packs. The expansion passes will act as the sequel or third version titles of Sword and Shield.
The expansion passes will give players access to brand new areas of the map, and will feature new Galarian forms for fan favorites such as Slowpoke. New outfits, trainers, and returning lost Pokémon will also make their debut.
Sword and Shield will continue to see version-exclusive Pokémon and trainers in the coming DLC. The Isle of Armor and Crown of Tundra will be part 1 and 2 of the DLC. Venusaur, Blastoise, and the latest three Starters will all have Gigantamax forms. The Isle of Armor expansion will see the return of the Regis, and Gigantamax forms for the three Legendary Birds from Gen 2.
The Isle of Armor will have a dojo that is run by Mustard, the player’s new mentor. Klara and Avery are the new rivals for Sword and Shield. Kubfu is a Fighting-Type that evolves into Urshifu, which has a Single Strike (Fighting/Dark) and Rapid Strike (Fighting/Water) form; it has the ability to Gigantamax in both forms. Apricorns, tutor moves, and the EXP. charm item will return in the coming DLC.
The Crown Tundra DLC will focus on exploration. Tundra will have a new temple, a mysterious giant tree, and more as you join an exploration team. Calyrex is a new Legendary Pokémon that is Psychic/Grass Type, and it looks like a puffy dear. Co-op will allow players to dungeon crawl together, wherein most (if not all) past-Gen Legendaries will be added.
Lastly, February will see the launch of trading hub Pokémon Home. Galarian Slowpoke will be available in Sword and Shield soon, but the items to evolve it are locked behind the paid DLC.
Isle of Armor will release in June 2020, and Crown Tundra will release in Fall 2020 for the Nintendo Switch. Free DLC updates will patch the latest paid Pokémon into the code of the games of players that haven’t purchased the DLC. The dual pack of the DLC retails for $29.99.
