Episode #53 – Irreplaceable

Hosted by Natalie Fisher, Karen Rought and Robbie Tursi-Masick

February 12, 2014

Karen and Natalie are joined by fandom fave Robbie to recap the sheer trauma of Teen Wolf season 3, episode 18 “Riddled.”

Featured Song: “The Call” by Ruu Campbell

– This week we’re joined by Robbie as our special fandom guest!
– This episode seems to have left everyone feeling very unsettled and distressed.
– We change our usual format and discuss why “Riddled” felt so different to any other episode of Teen Wolf.
– A big part of the reason was Dylan O’Brien, of course. We let loose on our feelings for him. Natalie recounts Kevin Smith’s podcast with Dylan and quotes the recent Daily Dot article. Karen implores everyone to look at this gifset.
– Literally, the first 27 minutes of this is just us in awe of Dylan.
– In general we are just very grateful he was cast and we all agree that there is no one like him currently working on television.
– In terms of the actual episode plot – were you expecting the cold open? And are Lydia and Aiden back together? Is she convinced he’s no longer a “bad guy”?
– Kira’s mom reacts pretty sternly about Kira’s power. Maybe she should fill her daughter in. Also, does the dad know?
– We can’t explain the scissors thing, but we’re glad Isaac’s sass was relatively subdued.
– Why did the kanji on the wall blow away? Was Stiles EVER in the basement of Eichen House? We don’t think Lydia was wrong, precisely, but what is going on?
– Once again, we’re kind of impressed by the scientific realism of some of the werewolf powers.
– Derek is so zen. Is this the exchange? We can have zen Derek, but only if we get crazy Stiles?
– Lydia doesn’t trust her powers now, and she’s ignoring them. Probably a bad plan. Also, “for Lydia,” the drawing in Stiles’s room – that’s got to be a clue, right? Like a note or something?
– Apparently we’ll be seeing another banshee?
– We meet Deputy Parrish. He’s great, and his moment was funny, but one of us may suffer from some stress-induced hysteria here.
– Agent McCall’s anecdote was useful or whatever, but screw you, buddy, for jibing Sheriff Stilinski about having a drinking problem. Hypocrite.
– Allison. Something is not right there, obviously. And what’s the situation with the Oak Creek internment camp?
– We can’t take much more of this. Can next week be a musical episode?
– We get a little bit off track and end up discussing when season 4 will air – how long will the wait be after 3B finishes?
– Derek accosts Kira at school. Clearly the rest of the pack did not warn Kira about Derek’s teen-stalking tendencies.
– Derek is very familiar with Stiles’s bat. Also, we miss the Camaro.
– We deal with the reality of Stiles’s medical testing and the relationship between him and Scott.
– Did Stiles consent to the bite?
– This episode contains a lot of lost, stressed sighing from us.
– Derek and Scott have some amazing moments, like, we can’t believe this is real.
– We try to imagine the season 1 characters acting like this. It’s impossible.
– How long has this particular plot been planned? The symbolism has been there in the opening credits for a long time.
– Does Stiles actually have this dementia, is it the effects of the nogitsune, or is it both?
– Will we get Claudia Stilinski flashbacks? Robbie has a casting request.
– Why does the nogitsune say “us”? Is it a part of Stiles, or a parasite?
– Mrs Yukimura battles nogitsunes for a living, apparently. She implies that there’s someone stronger who will beat this one. Natalie makes the worst pun in the world. It’s because of stress, shhh.
– Kira will ride a unicorn into battle. Shhhhhhhh.
– In our feedback section we attempt to puzzle out the oak thing – Oak Creek, Eichen House, the Nemeton, druids, OAK OAK OAK.
– Deaton is a waste of space at this point, right?
There’s some more meta about the internment camps, oaks, fireflies and kitsune. It all makes a scary amount of sense.
– Robbie asks if he’s thinking too hard about this.
– Er, Robbie, that’s literally why we’re here. Calm yourself.
– There is no happiness left in the world. We quit.
– Okay, there might be a bit of happiness left, because in our Non Sequitur section, we’re talking about Disney movies.
– Next week, the trauma continues. Thanks MTV!
