Episode #61 – Straight Outta D23

Hosted by Selina Wilken, Marama Whyte, Pamela Gocobachi, Andrew Sims

August 19, 2015

Andrew joins us for Hype episode 61 to break down all the big Marvel, Star Wars and Disney news from D23! We also talk The Martian, Fantastic Beasts, Straight Outta Compton and much more.

How We Hype:
– Pam tells us all about Straight Outta Compton and its significance for the gangsta rap movement
– Book club! Andrew reads Dark Places, Marama reads Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, and Selina reads The Martian.

News:
Fantastic Beasts starts filming at Leavesden!
– We go over everything that came out of D23 including the Captain America: Your Bucky (wait, that’s not its name?) trailer, the Finding Dory and Toy Story 4 info, and the lack of The Incredibles 2 promo material
– Orlando Bloom is returning for PotC 5! We reminisce about how truly great the first Pirates movie really was
– Colin Trevorrow to direct Star Wars IX… yay or nay
– Disney announces Star Wars theme park!
– Apparently there’s a big difference between the U.S. and international Victor Frankenstein trailers
– A Furiosa-centric Mad Max: Fury Road spin-off would be the best thing ever… unless it’s actually called Mad Max
Fresh Prince reboot in the works, Will Smith producing. Jaden Smith starring?!
– The Xena reboot is officially happening!
– NBC commits to superhero workplace comedy Powerless, which sounds awesome
– Pam is hooked on Once Upon a Time

TV Show of the Week:
– Andrew watches Unreal and Pretty Little Liars… and that’s it!

We close out the show with Listener Feedback (which is pretty much just a Kate/Kili celebration this week) and Hot on Hypable!

(NOTE: There is some crackling around the 40-minute mark, it’s not your headphones malfunctioning! It goes away after a few minutes. Sorry about that!)
