Episode #129 – #NewYearSameHype

Hosted by Selina Wilken, Pamela Gocobachi, Marama Whyte

January 10, 2017

Hype Podcast is back after a bit of a holiday break and Pam, Marama and Selina are incredibly excited to get back to talking about pop culture!

This week, we’re discussing everything from the tragic passing of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, to the latest news from this year’s TCAs press conferences, and much more!

Shownotes
– We kick things off with our signature How We Hype segment! Pam went to the cinema and absolutely loved La La Land and Lion. Meanwhile, Marama has been digging Ed Sheehan’s latest singles off his forthcoming album, Divide. Finally, Selina has been doing some reading and has a lot of thoughts on Earth’s Children, and The Handmaid’s Tale.
– Our news segment starts off on a somber note as the hosts mourn the lost of Hollywood legends Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds.
– Woody Harrelson is currently in talks to join the upcoming Han Solo film. Selina has a lot of curmudgeonly thoughts about Harrelson taking on a mentor roll in the series.
– Marama is still confused over the idea of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly teaming up for a Sherlock Holmes movie. Even so, we’re intrigued about the recent casting of Ralph Fiennes and Hugh Laurie joining the cast!
Charmed fans rejoice! The hit 90s series is officially getting the reboot treatment on The CW!
– Selina breaks down the latest news coming out of this year’s TCAs, including all the amazing CW shows that just got renewed! Plus, she gives us her spoiler free thoughts on the new The 100 season 4 promo!
– Disney Channel announced this week that Girl Meets World will end after season 3 and Pam is incredibly sad about it.
– We’ve also got a new promo for Doctor Who! The hosts are at odds over whether they’ll be watching this new season.
– We’ve finally got more details with regards to the new release of J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts! Marama breaks down what we can expect from the re-release!
– We cap off the news on a bit of a somber note as we talk about the recent passing of pop icon George Michael.
– In TV Show of the Week, Pam gives a breakdown of all of the telenovelas she teased in episode 128. For reference, her recommendations are Maria la del Barrio, Rebelde, La Fea Mas Bella, Juana la Virgen, and Cuidado con el Angel. She’s also been busy watching Netflix’s The OA!
– Finally, Marama has NOT been watching the new season of Sherlock, but she HAS been watching Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and gives it two thumbs up!
– We wrap up the show, as always, by reading TONS of your listener feedback!
