Episode #103 – ‘Hamilton’ in Space

Hosted by Selina Wilken, Pamela Gocobachi, Marama Whyte

June 17, 2016

Lin-Manuel is leaving Hamilton, but not before the show is filmed! There’s a Wicked movie coming, and Cursed Child is going on tour. Welcome to #TheaterHype!

Hype Podcast #103 reunites the wayward daughters Pam, Selina and Marama, who break down this week’s biggest entertainment stories! There’s a Moana trailer, Spider-Man casting news, Helen Mirren casting news (!), a Zelda game trailer, UnREAL and Game of Thrones discussions, and much more.

How We Hype:
– Selina recaps her Cursed Child trip (no spoilers!) — for a spoiler-free review featuring two other Hypable writers, click here!
– Pam and Marama loved the 2016 Tony Awards
– Marama can highly recommend Now You See Me 2
– Pam reviews The Martian DVD.

News:
– Javier Muñoz to replace Lin-Manuel Miranda in Hamilton, show to be filmed before Lin’s departure
Wicked movie set for 2019. Will Lea Michele play Elphaba?
– J.K. Rowling has confirmed a Cursed Child tour, but this is no guarantee all Harry Potter fans will see it
– There’s a new Shrek movie in the works, for some reason
Spider-Man: Homecoming adds Donald Glover in mystery role. Will he play Miles Morales? Should he? The hosts have — gasp — different opinions on this one
– The Marama Moana trailer is gorgeous, but needs more Moana
– Helen Mirren joins Fast and Furious 8, which means we’ll have to go see it now…
– Tyler Hoechlin will play Superman in Supergirl! How do you say ‘Hoechlin,’ anyway?
– Patrick Ness has confirmed that the Doctor Who spinoff Class will feature a gay lead with a boyfriend. We love this news, and hope other creators follow Ness’ lead
– The trailer for Nintendo’s new Legend of Zelda game obviously has Selina freaking out. But even Marama is excited, so you know it’s good.

TV Show of the Week:
– Marama and Pam are all about UnREAL season 2
– Selina still hasn’t watched it, because she’s been too busy (finally) catching up on Game of Thrones
– Pam is watching Mr Robot for the first time, and loves it.

We round out the show with Listener Feedback, which includes a Tom Welling shoutout, and a mini-discussion on fictional best friends.

Special #12 – Spoiler-Free ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ Review

Three Hypable writers have seen Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and they’re dying to talk about it! But since we know many people don’t want spoilers, this podcast is focused specifically on our feelings about and reactions to the play and story, as opposed to discussing specific plot points.

Hype #102: Hype-ception

We’re back with another jam-packed episodes of Hype! Selina, Kyle and Marama are still away, but Pam and Kristen are still here to hold down the fort and bring you the latest news on Star Wars, Moana, Supergirl and more!

Hype Special #11 – Diving into ‘Versailles’ with Alexander Vlahos

On this Hype Special, Selina is joined by Alexander Vlahos to talk about his new show Versailles, as well as the Merlin fandom and — at a certain superfan’s own prompting — Doctor Who.

Episode #101 – Where Have You Been?

The Hype hosts are back for episode 101! Well…some of them! With Kyle off traveling the world (we’re super jealous, BTW) and Selina and Marama off this week, Kristen and Pam welcome Hypable staffer Danielle on to the show to talk about everything from Cursed Child and James Bond, to Captain Marvel!
