Kristen wants to hit some of the real towns where her favorite books are set in Scotland. But also New Zealand to visit the Hobbits. Caitlin wants to travel to the place where Irish poetry hails from. Brittany is going to sip wine with Diane Lane and Sandra Oh in the Italian countryside.

Movie and TV Tie-in Novels
What do we think about when we hear tie-in novels?
Have we read any?
We have! Some examples include: ATLA, Charmed, Elementary, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Disney, Veronica Mars, Star Wars
Did you know that novelizations began as early as the 1920s?!
They are still NYT best-sellers lists
What makes a novel hit or miss?
Famous authors are coming to the tie-in world, but what does that mean for quality? Their investment in the series will shine through!
Do certain genres lend themselves to tie-ins better than others?
Here’s a history of the more popular titles from Star Trek to Dr. Who!
Episodic shows lend themselves to tie-in novels more so than drama and comedy with deep canon
Sci-fi and fantasy have universes that are limitless and so are the stories that can be told
Video game novels also give writers worlds to play in
Podcasts are not immune! But should they remain a part of the oral tradition they are calling back to?
There are different types of tie-ins: off-screen, prequels, reconciling differences, and post-series stories
Post-series in comic/book form are considered canon, especially when the creators are involved
Would we/do we read them and why?
Are we afraid of getting into the expanded universe?
The properties are limitless and the world is expanding rapidly
Have you heard of the Scribe Awards?
Will the improvements in tech and media change the way tie-ins are created?
The Pottermore problem
What would we like to see or read in the future?

More resources:
Popular TV series and movies remain relevant through novels
Yes, please still read and write movie tie-in novels!
