Looks like Phoebe Waller-Bridge won’t be starring in Amazon’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith reboot after all.
According to Deadline, Fleabag vet Phoebe Waller-Bridge has officially exited Amazon’s highly anticipated series reboot of the 2005 blockbuster hit, Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
Sources close to the project say that the Emmy Award winning actress has chosen to walk away from the project due to creative differences.
Amazon’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith series reboot was first announced to be in development back in February of 2021. The high profile project would have found Phoebe Waller-Bridge re-teaming with her Solo: A Star Wars Story co-star and fellow Emmy winner Donald Glover.
Originally, the duo was set to create, star in, and executive produce on the reboot series.
While Waller-Bridge is no longer involved, Glover himself is still slated to star in the show, in addition to serving as co-creator and executive producer.
Also still on board is Glover’s fellow Atlanta alum, Francesca Sloane, who will serve as co-creator, executive producer and showrunner on Amazon’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
Currently, there’s no word on who will now star opposite Glover in the series reboot, but Amazon is said to be searching for the perfect female lead as we speak.
As for Phoebe Waller-Bridge, fans can catch her next starring opposite Harrison Ford and Mads Mikkelsen in Indiana Jones 5. Directed by Academy Award winner James Mangold, the fifth film in the franchise is due out sometime next year in 2022.
