Peter Jackson is ‘serious’ about directing a ‘Doctor Who’ episode, says Steven Moffat

It’s been said before that Peter Jackson wanted to direct an episode of Doctor Who, and now it looks like the theories are becoming a reality.

It seems that current show runner Steven Moffat’s latest Q&A at the AdLib comedy event in Edinburgh is a news goldmine for Doctor Who fans.

In that one session he’s hinted at J.K. Rowling’s involvement with the 50th anniversary special short stories and now he’s told us that Peter Jackson is “serious” about directing an episode of Doctor Who.

Not only may Peter Jackson direct an episode, but it’s possible the episode will feature one of our favorite villains: The Daleks!

Moffat hinted at Jackson’s involvement when asked if there were any chances of it happening. He said, “He’s serious about it. We talked at The Hobbit premiere – he just wants a Dalek. So we’ll give him a Dalek and he’ll direct an episode. I think he’d like to us to go to New Zealand. I think it’s entirely possible.”

It’s no secret that Jackson is a fan of Daleks. He’s previously joked he’d even direct the episode for free if they gave him a golden Dalek in return, and now it looks like he’s one step closer to getting the golden Dalek of his dreams.

Now, whether Moffat is literally giving the Dalek as a gift to Jackson for directing the episode or if he wants him to direct a Dalek-themed episode of Doctor Who we’re not sure.

Details are sparse but with the recent news of Neil Cross, a New Zealand native, penning another episode of Doctor Who for season 8 it’s entirely plausible that Cross may be working with Jackson on the same episode, and the possibilities of the episode taking place in New Zealand are great.

We’re incredibly excited to see what Jackson comes up with and when his episode will air if this idea gets off the ground. We hope Moffat was referring to the upcoming season 8, and seeing as they haven’t filmed the Christmas special yet this gives Jackson plenty of time to prepare.

It should be interesting to see how Jackson will work his Doctor Who involvement into his schedule, seeing as he’s still working on The Hobbit.

Are you excited for Peter Jackson’s involvement?
