The Lightning Thief, the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is 10 years old this year! My how the time flies.
It was 10 years ago this June that we were introduced to a boy with dyslexia who turned out to be a demigod. Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series has become a phenomena with people of all ages, although they were originally imagined as bedtime stories for Riordan’s son, Haley. Percy Jackson is a hero to an entire generation much like Harry Potter. The Lightning Thief has sold millions of copies world wide.
The Lightning Thief appears on school reading lists nationwide, and inspired a major motion picture. It has also received many accolades including making Time Magazine’s 2014 List of 100 best Young-Adult Books of All Time, New York Times Notable Book of 2005, Child Magazine Best Book of the Year, School Library Journal Best Book of 2005, and more than six years on the New York Times Best Sellers List (and counting!).
To celebrate 10 years of Percy Jackson we are giving away a Percy Jackson and the Olympians boxset! Rick Riordan also has an activity kit available for download on his website that includes a recipe for making ambrosia, game ideas, and puzzles.
