Penny Dreadful: City of Angels has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette that highlights the shapeshifting ways of Natalie Dormer’s character Magda.
Entertainment Weekly first released the featurette, which takes a deeper dive into the world of the show and introduces us to the new cast.
Natalie Dormer, who plays Magda, describes her character in Penny Dreadful: City of Angels as the supernatural antagonist of the show, who manifests herself as many different people.
Here & Now’s Daniel Zovatto plays Tiago Vega, and describes his character as the first Chicano LAPD detective on the force, while Nathan Lane plays his grizzled old partner and eventual mentor, Lewis Michener.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels brings back series creator and showrunner John Logan, but has moved the setting from 19th century London to 1938 Los Angeles.
According to Showtime, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels should be considered the spiritual descendant of the original Penny Dreadful series and takes place in a time deeply infused with social and political tension.
The new series starts with a grisly murder that shocks the city, spurring Detective Tiago Vega and his partner Lewis Michener to become embroiled in an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city’s first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism.
Before long, Tiago and his family are grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart.
Natlie Dormer plays the sister of Santa Muerte (here played by Lorenza Izzo), who is the Holy Angel of Death and ferry woman of souls to the afterlife. As such, she is an agent of chaos who believes that humankind is inherently evil and will use her shapeshifting powers to prove that that’s true.
Penny Dreadful: City of Angels premieres April 26 on Showtime.
