On Tuesday (August 31), Peacock announced that newcomer Jabari Banks has officially signed on to star as Will in the forthcoming dramatic reboot of the iconic sit-com.
Original series star Will Smith (who also serves as an executive producer on the project) was on hand to let Banks (who fittingly hails from West Philadelphia) know he’d scored the coveted role.
“I’m ready, I’m so ready!” Said Banks after receiving the news.
“You got a fantastic road ahead of you, and I’m looking forward to being an asset for you in this process as you build out your life and you build out your career,” said Smith.

Based on Morgan Cooper’s viral fan trailer of the same name, Bel-Air is described as being a “dramatic analogue” of the beloved 90’s sitcom.
While we’ll still see Will grapple with moving from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air across the country, the series is set to take an even deeper dive into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases that were impossible to fully explore in a 30-minute sitcom format.
Behind the camera, T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Meanwhile, Cooper himself is on board to serve as director, co-writer, and executive producer.
Others set to executive produce include Will Smith, Terence Carter, James Lassiter, Miguel Melendez, Malcolm Spellman, Quincy Jones, Benny Medina, and Andy & Susan Borowitz.
Currently, there’s no word on when we might expect to see Bel-Air premiere via Peacock.
