For those of you who’ve been wondering about certain characters’ backstories or just wanted more of the epic Orphan Black world, we have good news! You’ll be able to immerse yourself in more clone club madness soon.
In a new press release by IDW Publishing, Orphan Black is getting the comic-book treatment with a brand new comic series that will explore the world that our favorite clones live in.
“Orphan Black, in addition to being a captivating TV series, is a perfect premise for comics,” states IDW Chief Creative Officer Chris Ryall. “And as the second season has expanded the series in exciting new directions, that has only increased the amount of stories we’ll be able to tell in comic-book form.”
John Young, managing director of Temple Street Productions (which is responsible for producing Orphan Black), is excited about prospect, stating: “We’re so thrilled for Orphan Black to take shape as a comic series and join the ranks of IDW’s impressive roster. Orphan Black was met with an enormous amount of enthusiasm at last year’s Comic-Con which really inspired us to give back to fans of the show through a medium so vital to the science fiction world.”
And for those wondering if the events in the comic-books will be canon, you bet they will! IDW Publishing will be working with the show’s producers to expand on the Orphan Black world. This means that instead of getting backstories on the show, we’ll likely see them come to life in the comic series.
The Orphan Black comics will be drawn by artist Nick Runge, with the first series launching in early 2015.
