Once Upon a Time returns to New York Comic Con on season 7 premiere day! What is in store for fans this season? We have all the information right here!
Fans in attendance at Once Upon a Time‘s Comic Con panel were treated to the entire first episode, airing Friday on ABC. Following the screening a Q&A revealed a few details about the future of the show, the new characters, and what’s in store for our favorite Storybrooke characters.
1. The reboot… works?
If you checked out of Once Upon a Time, now may be the time to revisit the series.
Call us crazy, but the series reset works in Once Upon a Time‘s favor. Even the members of the old guard, Hook, Regina, and Rumpel, make light of their new roles and blend into this world. The new characters, with emphasis on the Cinderella story, give a fresh boost to the tale.
Jacinda is the female heroine this reboot deserves. Even the writing feels tighter. Sure, we’re not out of the woods just yet. There is still time for smoke monsters, plot holes, and magic bean/wand/door/portal hunts. But taking the premiere at face value, we’re hooked for another year!
2. Emma and Hook reunite!
Unfortunately, it is short-lived and only in episode 2, but Emma Swan and Killian allow fans to bask in all their adorable glory one last time. As Jared Gilmore returns for a brief stint to spar with Hook aboard the Jolly Roger, our emotions are torn. Do we want Henry to stick around with Hook or Emma to stay?
While Emma feels torn about Henry wanting to ditch Storybrooke, Hook gives Emma a gift to help her cope — a message in a bottle. We’re sure we’ll see this again, even if we don’t see Emma for a very long time.
3. New curse, new love
Imagine years ago Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz were trying to coax people into their presentation. Eddie jokes that was the case! Now with the “requel” — part sequel, part reboot– Eddie says that a new curse, a new love, and a new quest will guide Henry.
Adam comments that “this is the best way to keep going and keep it fresh.”
4. Storybrooke leftovers
Episode 2, “A Pirate’s Life” will fill in Emma’s backstory, while giving Hook a bit more context in the new world. And if you’re waiting for Rumpel and Belle, stick around for episode 4!
Lana Parrilla was on hand to offer some insight into Ronnie versus Regina. She comments, “Ronnie is Regina with the six years of experience and adventures in her.” Adding, “It’s been a joy for all of is. Regina is buried in Ronnie.”
5. Hope
There is one element of Once Upon a Time that is not going anywhere — Hope. Since the show began, it’s always been about keeping the faith and believing in something bigger than yourself. Sometimes magic helps, but putting your trust in those around you and seeing a future beyond your current circumstances.
And season 7 is no different. No one is losing their happy endings, Adam confirms. But there will be new challenges to test their hope.
