Adam Horowitz and Ed Kitsis discuss the Once Upon a Time season 2 finale in a new interview, teasing the surprises ahead.
TV Line has spoken to the showrunners about the upcoming finale episode “And Straight on Till Morning,” airing May 12.
Horowitz talks about the two different aspects on the episode he’s proud of, saying, that there’s both, “The intimate of what our cast can pull off and the emotions they can convey always floors us,” and then also, “the scope of the storytelling, and the visuals that our crew is able to achieve.”
Before this episode, however, the writers are planning to tie up a lot of the season’s mysteries. In the penultimate episode “Second Star to the Right,” we’ll finally learn about Hook and Bae’s shared connection – and we think it’s pretty safe to say that whether or not Bae is Peter Pan, this connection will be Neverland-based.
We’ll also learn about Greg and Tamara’s agenda, and Horowitz says, “That reveal takes off like a rocket.”
And how about our core family, the Charmings? Could the magic beans be taking them back to fairytale land by season’s end? The execs won’t say of course, but Kitsis does offer some thoughts on whether Emma would join Snow and Charming if they did decide to go.
“The thing with Emma is a year ago she wasn’t a believer,” he says. “Then she went back to [fairytale land] and found it to be burnt and full of ogres. And like anybody, Emma struggles with this. She’s a person who has found that she has magic inside her and isn’t quite comfortable with it yet, so the thought of going back and having that be her life is very frightening.”
