To celebrate Once Upon a Time‘s favorite pirate, Hypable presents Captain Colin O’Donoghue’s 35 most swoon-worthy moments!
Captain Hook sailed into our hearts three seasons ago as a foil, someone to derail Emma Swan’s mission to return to Storybrooke. Far removed from his season 2 debut, Colin O’Donoghue has become a staple figure in the Once Upon a Time universe. He has assisted on dangerous missions, transformed himself from a villain to a hero, won over the heart of Emma Swan, and looked fantastic in leather all the while.
As season 5 unfolded, it was Hook, not Emma, who stole the major story arc. And we are lucky for it. Colin O’Donoghue not only delivered the material brilliantly, but solidified Captain Hook as the complicated anti-hero Once Upon a Time deserves.
In addition to winning us over with his acting, O’Donoghue also turns up the charm to an 11 in every scene. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and revisit the 35 times Colin O’Donoghue made us swoon as Captain Hook.
When Colin O’Donoghue showed us how flirting should look
Emma: Don’t think I’m taking my eyes off you for a second.
Hook: I would despair if you did.

Emma: Please, you couldn’t handle it.
Hook: Perhaps you’re the one who couldn’t handle it.

Hook: Normally, I prefer to do other more enjoyable activities with a woman on her back. With my life on the line, you’ve left me no choice. A bit of advice? When I jab you with my sword, you’ll feel it.
—
Hook: I may be a pirate, but I bristle at the thought of a woman losing her heart. Unless it’s over me.
Even if his intentions were misunderstood

Hook: [smiles sheepishly] There’s no need to be rash. We can… discuss this.
Cora: Your pretty face buys you a lot, but not my time. It’s too valuable.
When he knew how to get to the core of the matter
Emma: You traded your ship for me?
Hook: Aye…
—
Hook: Swan – don’t make a man drink alone!
Emma: I’m not in the mood for a drink. Or… a man.
Hook: I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you today. I know you feel like you’ve got the weight of the world on your shoulders, but at some point, even though we’re quite different, you’ve got to trust me.
Emma: That’s what you think this is about? That I don’t trust you?
Hook: Is that NOT what this is about?
Emma: Of course I trust you!
Hook: Then why do you keep pulling away?
Emma: Because everyone I’ve ever been with is dead! Neal… and Graham… even Walsh. I lost everyone. I – I can’t lose you, too.
Hook: Oh, love. You don’t have to worry about me. If there’s one thing I’m good at it’s surviving.

Hook: I spent many years in Neverland, home of the lost boys. They all share the same look in their eyes – the look you get when you’ve been left alone.
Emma: Yeah, well, my world ain’t Neverland.
Hook: But an orphan’s an orphan.
When Colin O’Donoghue’s Hook began to transform from villain to hero
Emma: I thought you didn’t care about anyone but yourself.
Hook: Maybe I just needed reminding that I could.
Regina: You wanna be friends? After everything that’s happened between all of us?
Emma: I don’t want or expect that. I know there’s a lot of history here and a lot of hate.
Hook: Actually, I quite fancy you from time to time. When you’re not yelling at me.
When he was incredibly aware of his shortcomings
Hook: I spent more time than I care to remember trying to leave this place and to kill Rumpelstiltskin. And here I am, sailing right back into its heart with him as my guest of honor. It’s not quite the happy ending I was hoping for.
But didn’t let them bother him…

Hook: Do you need a hand, love?
Emma: Is that a joke?
When he began to bond with David and Henry
David: I had a brother too, you know. A twin. He died before I ever met him.
Hook: There were two of you? I can barely stomach one.
David: Ah, you would’ve liked him, he was a thief and a liar.
Hook: Yeah, you would’ve liked my brother. He could be a stubborn arse.

These moments that meant little then, but so much now
Hook: Welcome aboard, Baelfire. It’s a pirate’s life for you.
Hook: A coconut? Are you daft?
Neal: You came to Neverland on a pirate ship through a portal, but you draw the line at a magic coconut?
Hook: Fair enough.
When he was winning over the girl
Hook: There’s not a day that will go by that I won’t think of you.
Emma: Good.
—
Hook: When I win your heart, Emma — and I will win it — it will not be because of any trickery. It will be because you want me.
—
Emma: You are glad to hear I got my heart broken?
Hook: If it can be broken, it means it still works.
Hook: Just who are you, Swan?
Emma: Wouldn’t you like to know.
Or when he was reunited with another love
Hook: She’s more beautiful than I remembered…
Ariel: You do realize you’re talking about a boat right?
Hook: You have your love, I have mine
Hook: Women come and go, Mr. Smee, but a pirate’s life… it’s forever.
When he tried to blend into the 21st century
Hook: [Bringing Jello] I thought you could use some sustenance.
Neal: There’s nothing like a green blob to get the appetite going.
Hook: Well, I gather it has great medicinal properties.
—
Hook: Miss Swan. I knew you wouldn’t let me rot in that cage. I’ve been in my fair share of brigs, but none as barbaric as that. They force-fed me something called “bologna.”

Hook: I push the Emma button and she answers… usually.
When he was looking for revenge
Hook: You ever wonder if this constant pursuit for revenge is the reason we have no one who cares for us? I mean, when all this is over and I know the Crocodile is dead for good and all… I’ll have nothing to look forward to. My life will be empty. Revenge may sate your being, but don’t misunderstand me, my dear. It’s an end, not a beginning.
And finally got a taste…
