The Disney+ Obi Wan Kenobi series has tapped King Arthur writer and John Wick 3 EP, Joby Harold, to pen the upcoming series.
According to Variety, who first broke the news, Joby Harold is set to take over writing duties on the highly-anticipated series from Hossein Amini, who left the the Obi Wan Kenobi series earlier this year in January.
Taking on the writing duties for the series will mark Harold’s first time writing for a television series. His most recent projects include a stint as executive director of John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum and the script writing job for Zack Snyder’s upcoming Netflix film, Army of the Dead.
Prior to Obi Wan Kenobi and those two projects, Harold was one of two writers, alongside James Vanderbilt, who was tapped to develop a new direction for the Transformers franchise for Paramount.
The Disney+ Obi Wan Kenobi series was first confirmed by Ewan McGregor last August, who said that he would be reprising the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the series.
McGregor played the Jedi in three Star War prequels and was one of the best parts of said prequels. McGregor is also famous for championing a solo film for the character, which for years has led to speculation (and lots of wishful thinking) that he might reprise the role for a standalone film.
At the time the series was announced, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said that “we have all the scripts written” and that shooting would begin in 2020.
Deborah Chow, one of the directors Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian series on Disney+, was tapped to direct the Obi-Wan series.
However, with the announcement that Hossein Amini was leaving the show, the start of production was delayed from August 2020 to January 2021. Though this caused shockwaves across the internet, McGregor stated that it was “not really as dramatic as it might seem.”
