“I’m ready! I’m ready!” You’ll soon be able to race as SpongeBob and friends in the nostalgia trip back to your childhood in Nickelodeon Kart Racers.
Nickelodeon Kart Racers will feature characters from series such as SpongeBob Squarepants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Rugrats.
More franchises will soon be announced, and we can’t help but wonder if Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra characters will be included. Imagine racing around as Korra or Aang as you finally defeat the evil SpongeBob.
Another series announced for inclusion in Nickelodeon Kart Racers is Hey Arnold!, opening up the doors for older franchises. We can imagine Doug, Rocko’s Modern Life and Invader Zim also being included in the lineup.
The game will release this October 23 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and will retail for $39.99. The game is being developed by Bamtang, and is published by the same studio behind Cartoon Network: Battle Crashers, GameMill Entertainment.
Nickelodeon Kart Racers works as a perfect promotional game for a lot of Nickelodeon titles, both old and new. While the inclusion of popular shows such as The Fairly OddParents is inevitable, there are some reboots and sequel series that will benefit from the extra visibility they will get from this racing game.
Rocko’s Modern Life has a TV movie releasing this year, while Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra are both still running comics seasons.
There will be a total of 12 series represented in Nickelodeon Kart Racers, with 4 already confirmed, leaving 8 open slots. There will also be 24 tracks included in the final build of the game.
It seems as though Nickelodeon is aiming toward an older demographic than their target viewership. However, with the popularity of their retro NickSplat social media campaign, I can imagine this game flying off store shelves this coming Fall.
