The newest Walking Dead spinoff trailer highlights the plight of its teen characters in a zombie-filled, post-apocalyptic world.
Despite being 10 seasons deep into its original series and losing its main character in Rick Grimes, The Walking Dead looks to be far from its last gasp of zombie-ridden breath.
What started out as a series about survival in a world filled with zombies is now better described as a franchise at this point.
Not only has the original 10 season series — The Walking Dead — managed to survive despite killing off and/or losing nearly all its original cast, it’s also spawned a spinoff in Fear the Walking Dead and will go on to make a series of films centered around Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes.
It will now also spawn a second spinoff — this one centered around teens.
AMC released the first teaser for the as-yet-untitled project, which you can watch below.
The teaser featured the stars of the show as we know them so far — Alexa Mansour, Aliyah Royale, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, and Annet Mahendru.
We don’t know too many specific details about the upcoming Walking Dead spinoff series, though we did learn a few things at San Diego Comic-Con.
According to Scott Gimple, The Walking Dead universe’s chief creative officer, all the teens in the show have grown up behind the walls of a very sheltered community. While they know about the threat of zombies and how to kill them, they’ve never had to apply that knowledge firsthand.
Of course, there’s no story in a walled city, so somehow the teens will be forced to leave the comforts of their walled community and the series will follow along as they leave home for the first time and become heroes and villains in their own right.
There’s no set date yet for the untitled show, but we do know it will premiere on AMC in Spring 2020.
