Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is just two short months away. Watch the brand new trailer, which premiered on Good Morning America.
We can’t wait for Rogue One, the rogue Star Wars story starring Felicity Jones as the rebellious Jyn Erso, who leads a team of outlaws in a quest to steal the plans for the first Death Star.
‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ premieres December 16, 2016
So close, and still so far… But this brand new trailer should help get you through the homestretch. It’s an epic new preview with messages of hope and rebellion. While previous trailers have made this look like a non-traditional Star Wars film, this one plays it a little closer to the vest, as we get a good old-fashioned “I am your father” moment:
This trailer reveals more about Jyn Erso’s origin story than we were expecting. We see flashbacks to her childhood, specifically when her father was taken away by the Empire. Galen was employed to help build the Death Star, which is why the Rebellion recruits the imprisoned Jyn to steal the plans back.
We meet the team, and find out how they get their “Rogue One” call sign. Jyn Erso appears to embrace the role of hero, even reminding the Rebellion of that ever-elusive hope (which they’re coincidentally on the edge of finding, as this film takes place just before A New Hope).
Director Gareth Edwards also recently revealed a brand new poster, which shows off Jyn Erso and her team. Note the way Darth Vader looms ominously behind her, the Death Star itself weaving into her face:
Jyn Erso is the most mysterious Star Wars hero yet, and many fans are speculating that she might be drawn to the Dark Side over the course of Rogue One. Then, it would be a question of whether her teammates — or her estranged father, who appears to come face-to-face with Darth Vader himself — would be able to draw her back to the Light.
Rogue One also stars Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Forest Whitaker, Ben Mendelsohn, Alan Tudyk, Genevieve O’Reilly, Jiang Wen and Spencer Wildling.
