Ahead of their SDCC debut, Netflix’s The Witcher dropped high quality photos of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri, and launched their social media presence.
The Witcher, which is both a series of novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s and a series of action RPG videogames, has amassed quite a huge fan base in both the book community and the video game community, and now looks to be gunning for the hat trick of fandoms by hoping to now amass a huge fan base among TV viewers.
Set in the magical land dubbed The Continent, The Witcher follows Geralt of Rivia, played here by Henry Cavill, who is a genetically modified, powerful monster hunter who tends to lone wolf it a lot. That is, until he teams up with Yennefer, an incredibly powerful sorceress, and Ciri, a princess with something to hide. Together they form a found family who need to figure out how to navigate the magical and political world of The Continent.
Lauren Schmidt, who has previously been an Executive Producer and writer for such shows as The Umbrella Academy, Daredevil and Power, will act as showrunner. Henry Cavill, of Superman, The Man from U.N.C.L.E and Mission Impossible fame, will play the handsome lead role of Geralt of Rivia, while relatively unknown actresses Anya Chalotra and Freya Allen will be playing Yennefer and Ciri, respectively.
While we were treated to a screen test of Henry Cavill playing Geralt a few months ago, today we got our first high quality, in-depth look at all the main characters, along with some character insight from the showrunner herself. Check them out below!

And while I haven’t read the books nor played the video game, Netflix knows just how to appeal to my demographic by giving me the one poster I truly want and need — one of Henry Cavill’s ass.

No word yet on when exactly The Witcher will debut on Netflix, but rumors are that it’ll be late 2019. We’ll be attending the panel at SDCC this year, which I’m sure will yield a few more specifics, so check back!
