Ian Reid’s best selling novel, I’m Thinking of Ending Things is the latest book about to get the adaptation treatment over at Netflix.
Now, movie fans can get a taste for what they can expect from the forthcoming adaptation by checking out the first trailer for the film.
The trailer kicks off by introducing us to a seemingly normal couple on their way to meet the parents, but as the trailer progresses it’s clear that everything isn’t what it seems to be on the surface.
For one, girlfriend (Jessie Buckley) seems to be having some reservations about her fairly new boyfriend, Jake (Jesse Plemons). For another, it’s clear that any reservations she might have had before only seem to magnify once they get to his family’s farm.

Joining Buckley and Plemons in starring in the drama are Toni Collette and David Thewlis who play Jake’s mother and father.
Behind the camera, the film is written and directed by Academy Award winner Charlie Kaufman, who is likely best known to many for his work on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Here’s Netflix’s official synopsis for the film:
Despite second thoughts about their relationship, a young woman (Jessie Buckley) takes a road trip with her new boyfriend (Jesse Plemons) to his family farm. Trapped at the farm during a snowstorm with Jake’s mother (Toni Collette) and father (David Thewlis), the young woman begins to question the nature of everything she knew or understood about her boyfriend, herself, and the world. An exploration of regret, longing and the fragility of the human spirit, I’M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS is directed and written by Academy Award winner Charlie Kaufman (ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND). Inspired by Iain Reid’s bestselling namesake novel.
I’m Thinking of Ending Things premieres via Netflix on September 4, 2020.
