At the start of their Television Critics Association panel this morning, Netflix announced dates for several of their upcoming Original Series.
First, the new Marvel series Daredevil starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock (pictured above) will premiere all episodes on Friday, April 10. Matt “fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the Super Hero ‘Daredevil’ in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City,” according to a release from Netflix. It is the first of several Marvel shows coming exclusively to Netflix.
To celebrate the announcement, a new poster was released today which traces the Daredevil initials into the city:
Second, and of equal excitement, Netflix announced that the Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin comedy series Grace and Frankie will premiere on Friday, May 8. Described as an “irreverent and touching series,” Netflix says the show follows “a pair of frenemies whose lives are turned upside down – and permanently intertwined – when their husbands leave them for each other. Together, they must face starting over in their 70s in a 21st century world.”
A couple of other premiere dates were also announced today, signaling that 2015 is going to be a big year for Netflix in terms of their original programming. The Tina Fey/Robert Carlock comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will premiere on Friday, March 6. The show stars Ellie Kemper as a character “who escapes a doomsday cult and decides to reclaim her life and start over in New York City. Armed with just a backpack, light-up sneakers, and a couple of way-past-due library books, Kimmy’s ready to take on a world she didn’t even think existed anymore. Wide-eyed but resilient, nothing is going to stand in her way.”
Bloodline starring Kyle Chandler, Ben Mendelsohn, Linda Cardellini, Norbert Leo Butz, and Jacinda Barrett premieres Friday, March 20. “When the eldest brother and black sheep of the Rayburn family returns home, he exposes the emotional demons that lie at the core of the family, threatening to tear them apart,” the synopsis reads.
In addition, Netflix renewed their Marco Polo series for a second season. No premiere date was announced today.
