‘Cursed’ trailer previews Netflix’s twist on Arthurian legend

Netflix’s has just dropped the first trailer for Cursed, which features Katherine Langford in a reimagined Arthurian legend.

Based on the upcoming book of the same name, Cursed is a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful –and tragic– Lady of the Lake.

After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther.

Cursed is a coming-of-age story with themes familiar to our own time: the obliteration of the natural world, religious zeal and oppression, senseless war and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible.

Check out the first trailer of Cursed below!

Cursed stars Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why, Love, Simon) as teenage heroine Nimue.

Joining Langford are Gustaf Skarsgård (Westworld, Vikings) as Merlin, along with Devon Terrell (Barry), Daniel Sharman (Fear the Walking Dead, Medici), Peter Mullan (Ozark), Lily Newmark (Pin Cushion), Shalom Brune-Franklin (The State, Our Girl), Sebastian Armesto (Poldark, Broadchurch), Emily Coates (Flack), Catherine Walker (Versailles, The Delinquent Season) and Billy Jenkins (The Crown, Holmes & Watson, Humans).

Zetna Fuentes (Ray Donovan, Jessica Jones, The Deuce, Shameless) will direct and serve as an executive producer on the first two episodes of Cursed.

The series is created and executive produced by Frank Miller (Sin City, 300) and Tom Wheeler (Puss in Boots, The Cape) who is also showrunner and writer. Tom Wheeler likewise wrote the companion book Cursed, which Frank Miller illustrated. Alex Boden (Sense8, Cloud Atlas) is producer and Silenn Thomas is co-executive producer.

Cursed will premiere on Netflix on July 17th.
