The first trailer for Netflix’s Concrete Cowboy finds Idris Elba and Caleb McLaughlin playing father and son– watch it below!
There are cowboys aplenty in the first trailer for Netflix’s Concrete Cowboy— but they’re not exactly roaming on the open range.
Inspired by the novel Ghetto Cowboy by G. Neri, Concrete Cowboy centers on 15-year-old Cole (Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin)— a troubled teenager who gets expelled from his school in Detroit and finds himself sent to live with his estranged father in North Philadelphia.
Cole’s father, Harp (Idris Elba), spends his days rehabilitating horses for inner city cowboys at the Fletcher Street Stables— a real-life, black urban horsemanship community that has provided a safe haven for the neighborhood residents for over a century.
As the trailer shows, however, assimilating into his father’s life doesn’t come easy for Cole. Instead, the teenager finds himself torn between his growing respect for his father’s community and his rekindled friendship with his cousin Smush (Emmy Award winner Jharrel Jerome), whose got troubles of his own.
