There’s nothing more refreshing than jumping into a TV show on Netflix. When you hit play, each episode just plays.

There are no commercials, no “this show was sponsored by” narrator, no nothing. Your show just starts, and it doesn’t stop playing until its over. It feels so good!

The website Exstreamist, a site dedicated to monitoring this cordcutting age, decided to do some math on how many commercials Netflix has saved the average user from. The results are incredible.

According to a recent study by TDG Research, users spend an average of 1 1/2 hours a day and around 540 hours a year watching content on Netflix. If you were to watch those same 90 minutes of TV a day via your cable box, you’d be watching an additional 22 minutes of ads.

If you do the math on that, this means Netflix is saving you from from over 130 hours of ads per year. That equals 5.4 days. Wow!

What have you done with that extra 5.4 days of time? Volunteered at a charity? Helped the elderly walk across the street? … Or did you just watch more Netflix?

These commercial numbers appear to only be growing as well. Nielsen said there’s been a steady increase in the amount of advertising time per hour over the past few years, and with networks always looking for more money, we doubt that trend will slow down.

The one problem with Netflix is that you can’t watch any of your television shows as they air live on TV. Unfortunately, we still have to deal with ads when we want to watch our favorite shows when they premiere (unless you’re watching a Netflix Original like Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, Bojack Horseman, or Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt).

These impressive numbers are just another reason why Netflix is the top streaming service worldwide. No other service can compare! Can you believe that even when you pay a monthly fee to Hulu, they still make you watch advertisements? It’s like a cable box, but worse.
