Need a break from all the drama in the world? Netflix is currently streaming plenty of reality shows that will make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Sometimes you just need to step away from crime, thrillers, romance and even your real life, and focus on something a little less stressful. And sometimes you really want to see a reality show, with real people doing real-world things. But when so many reality shows are full of drama, they often just make you feel worse.
Thankfully, Netflix has plenty of shows that are both real and non-stressful, which are perfect for watching at the start of the day, right before bed, or during a relaxing break.
Grand Designs stands out in its genre because it’s probably the most ambitious home construction show of all time. It’s the perfect combination of construction and design, good-humored family drama, and vicarious enjoyment of others’ homes.
In each episode, host Kevin McCloud introduces us to a family that’s building their dream home. Often, those dreams are really ambitious and very unusual. Whether it’s a seemingly impossible design, an extremely low budget, non-traditional materials, or just a really, really weird house, Grand Designs shows us exactly what it takes to build the house of your dreams — and then lets us vicariously enjoy how great (or weird) it is. Best of all, the show doesn’t shy away from the fact that most ambitious homes take multiple years to build: it ambitiously films throughout all those years!
Even if you aren’t planning to build a house anytime soon, it’s wonderful fun to see the transformation that takes place, with all its unexpected ups and downs, as a group of people set out to make a dream come true.
