Netflix just released the trailer for its newest romantic comedy, Always Be My Maybe starring Ali Wong and Randall Park.
Ali Wong and Randall Park are teaming up in a new romantic comedy, Always be My Maybe, and we are so excited to see this one. The two star as Sasha and Marcus, two lifelong friends that everyone always assumed would get together.
It never happened, and the two have a falling out that causes them to not talk for 15 years. However, when Sasha returns home and starts dating again, the two start to wonder if there really could be something between them.
Check out the absolutely adorable trailer for Always Be My Maybe (perfectly set to the Mariah Carey ’90s classic “Always Be My Baby”) below!
There is just so much to love about this trailer and this movie as a whole. Ali Wong and Randall Park wrote the screenplay for Always Be My Maybe together, and the film is directed by Fresh Off the Boat and Don’t Trust the B____ in Apt. 23 director Nahnatchka Khan.
Wong and Park have amazing chemistry on screen, and they instantly hook you into their characters’ years-long relationship. Netflix is doing a great job reviving the romantic comedy for modern audiences, and we can’t wait to see what they do with Sasha and Marcus’ story.
And we definitely can’t talk about the Always Be My Maybe trailer without talking about that brilliant and hilarious, totally-out-of-left-field cameo by a bespeckled Keanu Reeves. Throwing him in at the end of the trailer as a new, steamy hookup for Sasha was hilarious and we are absolutely here for it.
But even more than the adorable storyline, the chemistry of the leads, and the addition of a major Hollywood actor as a goofy, new boyfriend for the female lead, this is another really wonderful and important step forward in representation. It’s incredibly important that Wong and Park’s script is coming to life with Asian-American actors as the two romantic leads as opposed to rewriting the script to fit two white leads. Opening the doors for more diverse storytelling is so important, and we’re glad to see Netflix attempting to do that with many of its new romantic comedies.
This is definitely one movie you don’t want to miss, and thankfully you don’t have to wait long for the film to premiere on Netflix. Always Be My Maybe will be available to stream only on Netflix starting May 31.
