Based on the classic book series, the first trailer for Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase, starring It‘s Sophia Lillis, debuted on The Ellen Show.
Loosely based on the second published Nancy Drew book of the same name, Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase offers a fresh take on the teen detective. Though it comes across a little bit spookier, and features a lot more skateboarding, there’s still something comfortingly familiar about Lillis’ Drew, and her rag-tag team of friends, as they band together to solve a mystery.
Ellen DeGeneres, who produced the movie, premiered the first trailer on her talk show, which you can watch below.
This isn’t the first time that the Hidden Staircase has hit screens, with the last adaptation coming out in 1939, and starring Bonita Granville. The most recent Drew movie was the self-titled Nancy Drew in 2007, which did not fare well neither at the box office nor with fans, and starred Emma Roberts.
Hopefully this latest will have more success, and from the first look at the trailer, it at least has some intriguing new elements that appear promising. And with Sophia Lillis leading the cast, it could prove to be enough of a draw for the younger audience it is aimed at.
Katt Shea, the director of the 1992 thriller Poison Ivy, helms the film, with a script by Nina Fiore and John Herrera (The Handmaid’s Tale, The Vampire Diaries).
Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase hits theaters on March 15.
