Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set to tie the knot on May 19 of 2018, and Lifetime will be celebrating the occasion with a TV movie based on the remarkable love story.
This isn’t the first time that Lifetime has created an original TV movie to celebrate a real-life royal love story that managed to capture the world’s attention. Back when we were enraptured with Prince William’s engagement with Kate Middleton (now formally known as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge), the network created an original TV movie called William & Kate: The Movie.

As Deadline reports, the Lifetime original movie will be called Harry & Meghan: The Royal Love Story. A release date hasn’t yet been announced–the film is still casting, in fact — but they are likely to release the film just before the royal ceremony. In 2011, William & Kate released 11 days before the Royal Wedding.
Harry & Meghan will follow the couple from the moment they were set up by a mutual friend, the unique challenges they faced in the early days of dating one another (specifically with keeping their relationship from the press), and the ultimate media scrutiny that came once their relationship was public. They’ll also focus on how Markle was received by the media as a bi-racial, American actress who was also divorced.
If the frenzy leading up to Prince William and Catherine’s wedding is any indication, the world will be swept up with royal fever as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s May 19 nuptials get closer. Should Lifetime be able to release the film prior to the wedding like they did for William & Kate, the TV movie should release just at the peak of our Royal Wedding fever.
Royal Weddings are always fascinating, but Markle’s union with Prince Harry feels like a new era for the Royal Family in the best way. This will certainly be a Royal Wedding to watch, and we’re excited to see how Lifetime tells the couple’s story.
