Mattel is releasing a collector’s edition Barbie doll to celebrate the release of the new Tomb Raider film, and we’re obsessed with this new doll!
Tomb Raider‘s Lara Croft is returning to movie theaters, and Mattel hasn’t wasted any time making sure they have a doll ready to commemorate Alicia Vikander’s run in the iconic role. Lara Croft in her doll form and in Vikander’s portrayal signify the shift in Lara Croft’s look since her video game reboot in 2013. The doll will be sporting Ms. Croft’s new, iconic look of a grey tank and cargo pants, as well as a bandaged thigh and arm.
As IGN first reported, pre-sales are going on now at Barbie.com for this collector’s edition doll. The doll retails for $29.99, and like any good adventurer comes with accessories. In addition to a doll stand and a certificate of authenticity, the Lara Croft doll will be ready for adventure, equipped with an axe, a journal, and a map.
This is a pretty awesome addition to the Barbie family. Barbie dolls aren’t necessarily known for being the scrappiest of toys and collectibles, but this doll does a great job of bringing some of Lara Croft’s toughness and ingenuity into the Barbie family.Though the dolls are available for pre-order now, the Lara Croft Barbie will be officially released on March 9.
Tomb Raider will be arriving in theaters on March 16. While historically, video game movies don’t perform terribly well at the box office, the trailers for Tomb Raider make it seem like this film could break that video game movie curse. We’re so excited to see Alicia Vikander bring Lara Croft to life on the big screen, as well as inspire a brand new Barbie collectible!
